Hamilton Group has been testing out Windows 11 since it was just a preview. We held off recommending it to clients while testing and ensuring core business applications were updated.

Windows 10 has already received an end-of-life death sentence in 2025. This gives businesses 3 years to update their existing devices or look to upgrade their ageing computers to avoid compatibility issues.

Yes, we do recommend updating your devices

Windows 11 is free, but that doesn’t mean we should just rush out and upgrade. We have to make sure your business applications are supported. Not just by Windows 11, but also by Hamilton Group.

To stay compliant and to help you we need to know that there aren’t going to be any issues or security concerns. With only three years until Windows 10 reaches the end of its life, we have to consider whether we should upgrade your existing devices or look to replace them.

It is also very unlikely that your old devices would actually pass the compatibility tests. All new laptops and PCs will be shipped with Windows 11 and Hamilton Group recommends reviewing your equipment every 3 years. It may be worth skipping a free upgrade option and looking towards replacing the old devices, certainly when your budget allows.

If you would like to look at your upgrade strategy and you need help with it then contact us for a no-obligation chat or if you have any questions or concerns about your software compatibility then fill out our form below.

Should you upgrade to Windows 11?

I believe so, one reason would be to consider the new functionality of Windows 11 over Windows 10. However, we should justify upgrading just for this reason. The Start Menu and Taskbar do look different but most of the other new features are not on the surface.

Windows 11 runs great on newer devices and we’ve even been running it on Virtual Machines with Parallels for Mac.

Oooh Freebie, Free upgrade to Windows 11, should I?

Microsoft are offering current Windows 10 users the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 11 for free, as long as the device meets the minimum requirement. You can upgrade to Windows 11 yourself but Hamilton Group recommend you speak to us before performing any upgrades.

We will check the compatibility between the device and any software you use, this will make sure there won’t be any issues post-upgrade.

Please speak to our support team if you do make a decision to upgrade to Windows 11.

Windows 11 Features and Benefits

There is a whole host of new functionality in Windows 11 and the new Operating System may just be the right choice for you and your business.

If you do find that your device is less than a year old then taking advantage of the free upgrade may be advantageous.

Just some of the features you can take advantage of by upgrading or buying a new device is:

  • Dock Enhancements: We love the new dock features in Windows 11.
  • Intuitive: Windows 11 is even easier to use, certainly is once you start using all its amazing features.
  • Modern Design: We love the way it looks, Microsoft opted for a fresh new look with the upgrade.
  • Security Enhancements: Enhanced protection and integration with Microsoft 365 has been increased in this update.
  • Teams Integration: Teams is now baked into Windows 11, although we do see issues as it seems to be the “home” version rather than the “work” version.
  • Major Monitor Upgrades: Using multiple screens is even easier now with enhanced capabilities.

Over the next few months we will be releasing more information on our Blog for you to learn about Windows 11 and how you can benefit.

If you do have any questions or are looking to upgrade to Windows 11 then let us talk, either way we will be happy to discuss any of your business needs.
